frequently asked questions

What is a Registered Nutritionist?

The title of Registered Nutritionist can only be used by those who meet the standards determined by The Nutrition Society of New Zealand. Registered Nutritionists must hold relevant academic qualifications and professional experience in the field of nutrition. Registered Nutritionists adhere to The Royal Society of New Zealand Code of Professional Standards and Ethics and must participate in ongoing training for continued registration.

Is my consultation cost covered by health insurance?

When you work with a Registered Nutritionist, your health insurance plan may cover some or all of your consultation cost. Please review your health insurance policy, to determine whether you're eligible for cover. Consults must be attended and paid for by the client before or on the day of the consult, after which you can send your receipt to your insurer for reimbursement of your claim.

Southern Cross health insurance plans that DO reimburse sessions with a Registered Nutritionist (up to the amount stated in your plan) include:

Wellbeing One (with Body Care module added; up to $250 per claims year)

Wellbeing Two (with Body Care module added; up to $250 per claims year)

UltraCare (up to $440 per claims year)

How do I book a plan?

Book an initial consultation here. This will count toward your plan. Depending on your goals and level of support required, we can discuss plan options during your appointment.

What do I have to do in the lead up to my initial consultation?

To make the most of your appointment time, complete the health, diet & lifestyle questionnaire and submit this as soon as you book your appointment, or at least a few days prior to your appointment. We also ask that you complete a 3-day food diary, which will help us understand your regular diet. This document can be found here, or on the consultations page of the website. If you have a recent blood test, or other relevant health test results from your doctor, you are welcome to bring these also.

How long is a consultation?

An initial consultation is 60 minutes for an individual, or 90 minutes for a couple. Follow up appointments can be either 30 minutes or 15 minutes for individuals, or 45/20 minutes for couples. The length of time for follow up consultations can be discussed with your nutritionist prior to booking them, depending on your needs.

Can I book with Mitchell Weston Nutrition for something that is not listed in the services?

Yes! Our nutritionist can help you with a range of health issues, and we are not limited to the services listed on the website. Please contact us using the contact form on the website to discuss further.

Is there a time frame on my package to use up my consultations?

There is no time limit on the follow-up packages, so it is fine if you need to delay due to life getting in the way! Keep in mind that you can switch to online consults if need be. There is a time frame for the 8 week weight loss program - this must be completed in 8 weeks.

Do you have a cancellation fee?

Yes. If you are not able to keep your appointment time, please call or email us to reschedule. We request that you give us at least 24 hours’ notice, so that we can make that time available to someone else to help them on their health journey. Failure to cancel without 24 hours’ notice will incur a cancellation fee of 50% of the cost of the consultation, to cover our time. All prepaid consultations cancelled outside of the 24 hour period are subject to a 3.2% cancellation fee.

Do you offer concession prices?

Concession prices are available to adults 65+ years (ID or Gold Card required) for Initial Consultations and Follow-up Consultations only (not available for plans).

Mitchell Weston Nutrition also has full access to the Metagenics and Pure Encapsulations nutritional supplement range and a number of other Practitioner Only brands.
